Backup2Cloud NG Service Description
The Service is operated from a single data centre (Primary data centre) within the region providing an S3 Compatible storage endpoint with support for Immutability (Primary cloud target). An optional air-gapped replica to a geographically diverse location within the region (Covert Protect) is available to protect the Cloud target from cyber-attacks and malicious activities attempting to destroy backup data stored in the Cloud target.

The Service includes HYCU R-Cloud HCE software (Backup controller) deployed to a suitable system at the End User site (Source Site).

During deployment the Backup controller is licensed using the supplied license file and configured to connect to the Cloud target for secure off-site storage with or without Encryption.

In addition, if required, the Backup Controller can be connected to additional (supported) storage targets at either the Source Site for local storage (Local target) or an additional geographically diverse data centre (Secondary data centre) within the region (Secondary cloud target) with or without Encryption.

The Backup Controller is configured to protect the following supported Source objects:

  • Virtual Machine - Backup Controller is connected to a Hypervisor (Source) enabling a virtual machine to be assigned to a Policy for protection.
  • Physical Machine - Backup Controller is connected to a server (Source) enabling a server to be assigned to a Policy for protection. 
    Note. Requires deployment of at least one HYCU Instance.
  • File / NAS - Backup Controller is connected to a file server (Source) enabling a share to be assigned to a Policy for protection.
    Note. Requires deployment of at least one HYCU Instance.
  • Object /Bucket - Backup Controller is connected to an object server (Source) enabling a bucket to be assigned to a Policy for protection.

Policies (Policy)
Enable the scheduling of automatic backups to achieve the optimum level of data protection based on your recovery point (RPO) and time objectives (RTO) and backup retention, including designating the Cloud target and if applicable Local target.

Target Encryption (Encryption)
Enables the encryption of all data held on a supported target (Cloud target or Local target) with an encryption key, configured on the Backup Controller.

Note: The storage and safe keeping of the Encryption Keys are the responsibility of the End User or, where applicable, the Reseller. If the Encryption Keys are lost, data is not recoverable.
